Veteran freedom fighter Ananta Charan Dhal died at the age of 102 in his residence at village Arangabad under Bari block in Jajpur district on Sunday night.
He was suffering from old age-related ailments for last two years. Dhal had played a lead role in launching anti-British movement ‘Quit India’ in August 1942. He was imprisoned in Brahmapur jail for two years from 1942 to 1944. He also worked with eminent freedom fighters Malati Choudhury, Nabakrushna Choudhury, Harekrushna Mahtab, Rama Devi, Saraswati Devi and others during freedom movement. Former Union Minister Srikant Jena, former State Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, former Bari MLA Debashis Nayak and present Bari MLA Sunanda Das have condoled Dhal’s death.
