For the first time since mid-April, the number of fresh cases dropped below the 10,000-mark as active cases also showed a sharp decline by 52 per cent while the recovery during the same period was almost 14,000 more than the fresh cases reported on Sunday.
UP recorded 9,391 cases, a sharp slide from 10,682 on Saturday, even as the state conducted a total of 2,55,110 tests in the last 24 hours. The state saw a whopping 23,045 recoveries.
“The state’s recovery rate recorded a significant improvement as it climbed up to nearly 90 per cent, testifying the success of the ‘Yogi Model’ that has also been acknowledged and praised by experts nationally and globally,” a government spokesman said here on Monday.
The daily Covid positivity rate — the number of positive cases against the total tests done — on Sunday dipped below 5 per cent in Uttar Pradesh for the first time since the middle of last month. This rate was at its highest at 16.84 per cent on April 24, which has now come down to 3.68 per cent. The active Covid cases have been drastically reduced by more than 1.60 lakh from its peak which went up to 3,10,784 cases on April 30, and has now come down to 1,49,032, recording a drop by 52 per cent.
“As a result of effective and swift implementation of the proactive test-trace-treat model, UP has managed to flatten the coronavirus curve,” the spokesman said.
After efficiently tackling the second wave of novel coronavirus, CM Yogi Adityanath has also instructed the authorities concerned and senior officials to formulate a strategy to deal with the probable third wave to protect people of the state.
Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal said on Monday that 285 people died due to coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours as against 311 on Sunday.
Sehgal said wrong information is being sent that the number of tests has been slashed. “Our target is 2.5 lakh tests per day but we are doing more tests,” he asserted.
Sehgal said that some people had predicted that more than one lakh new cases would be detected in UP everyday by May 15, but it did not happen.
As many as 542 new cases were found in Gorakhpur and 517 in Lucknow. On Sunday, Meerut reported the maximum cases at 782, but the number came down to 452 on Monday. Besides, 458 cases were found in Saharanpur and 457 in Gautam Buddha Nagar.
In the last 24 hours, 22 people died in Lucknow, 21 in Kanpur and 11 each in Ghaziabad & Saharanpur.
“From today, vaccination for the 18-44 age category has been started in five more districts. So far, 1,16,00,000 people have been given the first dose of vaccine while 32,61,000 have been fully vaccinated,” he said.
