Early arrival of the monsoons in northern India has triggered heavy rains in the hills and plains and Ganges was in spate after the release of 3.75 lakh cusec water from Haridwar on Saturday morning. Besides, 1.30 lakh cusec water was released from the Bijnore Ganga barrage which was likely to increase the water level of Ganga further by evening and was likely to maroon villages located in the river valley in western UP.
The district administrations and police force have been put on alert in riverside villages of respective districts and villagers have been instructed to evacuate to safer places.
On the other hand, due to incessant rains in the catchment areas of all the rivers flowing through the threat of floods have started looming especially in the eastern districts or Purvanchal.
Widespread rains were reported from across the state in the past 24 hours and the weathermen predicted more rains in the next 48 hours in Purvanchal and western UP.
