The Delhi Congress has demanded that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government give a monthly dole of Rs 10,000 to every family in the national Capital besides a special package to small shopkeepers, as the deadly sweep of the mutated strain of the Coronavirus has not spared anyone.
Former Union Minister and ex-MP Krishna Tirath said that the prolonged lockdown has caused irreparable damage to the economy and lives of the people of Delhi as the national Capital has virtually hit the bottom in every index with small businesses, traders and shopkeepers, and those who depend on them for their livelihood, suffering a terrible battering.
Addressing the media, Tirath said that when the present lockdown was announced on May 19 after the situation in the city turned worse with the latest wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that it would be a short lockdown. But the Government kept on revising its plans in the wake of the second wave of the pandemic.
However, now the AAP Government has decided to start the unlocking process in a gradual manner from May 31.
She said that it was surprising that the Delhi Government plans to allow the resumption of construction and industrial activity without specifying what steps are being taken to ensure that the workers engaged in the construction and industrial activities are safe.
