Govt to form expert panel, plan to solve Delhi’s waterlogging woes

Saturday, 04 September 2021 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Delhi Government will form an expert committee and prepare a short and long-term plan to solve the waterlogging problem.

On Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyendar Jain and Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Dev chaired a meeting and discussed issues pertaining to waterlogging.

Soon after the meeting, Sisodia said places of waterlogging will be identified and work will be done at the micro level to bring relief from this problem.

Emphasising the need for coordination among all agencies, the corporations, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the PWD, Sisodia  said, “This time Delhi has received more rain than previous years and has faced waterlogging at many places. To eliminate this problem, it is very important that all the agencies related to it, together with coordination, make short-term and long-term plans to deal with this problem and execute it.”

“The responsibility to mitigate this will be of the primary agency with the rest of the agency providing support,” he added.

Underlining the problem of waterlogging occurring near two major places of Delhi, ITO and NH-24, Sisodia directed the officials to remove the problem of waterlogging at both these places at the earliest. Sisodia said that whenever it rained this year, a pond was formed near ITO and on the slip road of NH 24.

He said that this problem will be solved only when all other agencies including NHAI, MCDs and the PWD work together. He directed the officers to constitute an expert committee comprising officers of all the agencies.
