A book written by senior journalist and researcher Jitendra Patnaik on the life, struggle, livelihoods and culture of aboriginal tribe Dongria Kondhs was released by Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal here on Thursday.
Prof Lal lauded Patnaik’s work as rare and useful. Patnaik has set an example for others by visiting the Niyamgiri Hills and articulating on the tribal life, he said.
The book titled ‘Dongran Kuan’ (meaning people of forest) contains 242 pages with six main chapters and 16 sub-sections.
The contents deal with myths on Dongaria lifestyle and culture, livelihoods, struggle for survival and a chapter on the Niyamgiri Hills.
While the forward of the book has been written by former Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik, eminent writer and translator Asit Kumar Mohanty has written the introduction. It’s the second book to the credit of Patnaik. Earlier, his writings on Gond tribe and book “Dangara Uhade Jahna’ (Moon hides on shades of barren hills) are appreciated by many and available in leading bookstores and libraries.
