Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday extended good wishes to the Indian contingent, especially the athletes from the state, participating in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Indian contingent of 126 athletes has 31 athletes (25%) from Haryana. While watching the grand opening ceremony from here, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the athletes will perform exceedingly well at the Tokyo Olympics-2020.
He said the athletes have worked very hard and he was looking forward to watching them perform at the International level. Khattar elaborated that Haryana has been promoting sports in the State as a part of which an amount of Rs 5 lakh was given to the athletes for better diet, training and capacity building. Besides this, various steps were taken wherein representatives of the state visited the families of the athletes to enquire about the challenges being faced by them, he added.
The CM said State will take care of the families so that the athletes can participate in the event with a free mind. Among the events on Saturday, India Vs Netherlands Women Hockey match will commence at 5.15 am in which 9 athletes from Haryana will participate, India Vs New Zealand Men’s Hockey match will start at 6.30 am in which two athletes from the state will participate and a Men’s boxing match between India and Japan will start at 3.50 pm in which one athlete from Haryana, Vikas Krishan, is representing the country.
