Haryana CM presides over joint meeting of BJP-JJP MLAs, signaling ‘all is well’ in the alliance

Wednesday, 23 June 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

After his last week's Delhi tour, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday held a joint meeting of MLAs of Bharatiya Janata Party and Jannayak Janata Party, sending out a message that “all is well” in the alliance.

During the joint meeting of MLAs of two parties, the work of the State Government remained the key agenda. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, BJP state chief OP Dhankar, JJP state chief Nishan Singh, Haryana BJP incharge Vinod Tawde among other leaders.

The BJP-JJP Government had completed a tenure of 600 days in Haryana last week and the government now aims to expedite the development works which had slowed down due to COVID-19 pandemic.

There were reports that the JJP is keen to have another MLA inducted in the state cabinet. However, the Chief Minister had last week put an end to the speculations of cabinet expansion and told mediapersons that there is no such plan.

The announcement had come as a major disappointment for JJP MLAs.

Apart from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, there are currently 10 council of ministers comprising one from its alliance partner and an independent in the Cabinet. The cabinet can have 14 members, including the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister.

Tuesday's meeting also came ahead of two significant meetings of state BJP over the next two days to chalk out a strategy for holding various party programmes in the state. BJP state executive committee will meet on June 24 to discuss the political situation in the state.

The ongoing farmers' protest had earlier led to trouble in the BJP-JJP alliance as few JJP MLAs had openly come out in support of farmers' demand to repeal the contentious farm laws.

Another bone of contention between the alliance partners is their joint minimum programme, which is yet to see light of day.

After the meeting, the Chief Minister Manohar Lal while talking to the mediapersons said that the main agenda was the government's schemes.

He said that the MLAs were apprised about two initiatives namely Jan Sahayak and Gram Darshan. Jan Sahayak is citizen services monitoring system is an endeavour to the government to ensure timely delivery of citizen centric services and provide open and free access to the citizens to be informed of the status of their applications. Gram Darshan will also make all Government services accessible to the common citizens in their locality, he said.

When asked whether the issue of ongoing farmers' agitation was discussed at the meeting, Khattar said that the issue was not discussed. There are many issues which remain to be discussed and another meeting in this regard will be held next week, he said.

Due to COVID-19, we could not meet the MLAs and meetings were held only virtually. The meeting has been convened after almost three months, he added.
