Health Minister Banna Gupta on Wednesday asked RIMS to inquire about the health of video journalist Baijnath Mahto where he directed doctors and RIMS administration to provide the best treatment to this journalist who is battling for his life.

Mahto, a resident under Sadar police station was grievously assaulted by criminals on the night of September 11. He suffered serious head injuries. Journalist fraternity of Jharkhand became upset with Ranchi police for not taking the matter seriously even if Mahto had informed police that he is facing threat.

At the RIMS Mahto is being treated by Dr CB Sahay who told the minister that RIMS is providing the best treatment and medical facilities to him. Gupta also told the RIMS administration that in case Mahto is required to be taken out of Jharkhand for better treatment then the Jharkhand Government will make necessary arrangements for the same.

So far his condition is concerned he is still very critical but he has been taken out from ventilator support. The doctors have noticed slight movement in his leg which has enhanced the chance of his survival.   Meanwhile prayers are being carried across Jharkhand for his speedy recovery. Fearing public outrage Ranchi police also has started investigation of this case on the priority basis. For speedy investigation IG (Operation) has been asked to supervise the investigation. Police have also released a picture of a suspect   as Akash alias Benga. Besides, a cash reward of Rs 25000 has been announced for anyone giving worthwhile information about assailants.

Separate teams have been formed which have been carrying out raids in Purulia in Bengal and other parts of Jharkhand to nab the accused. A team has also gone to Gaya. But credible sources said that the accused had fled to Kolkata and he is hiding in a brothel.
