Health officials bullied for Remdesivir in Palamu

Tuesday, 18 May 2021 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Health officials here in Daltonganj are publicly humiliated by relatives of the covid positive patients for the Remdesivir vial of injection. There is hardly any day here when one or two such episodes do not occur  where health officials are not bullied and abused by the kin of the Covid patients for not making them  available for this injection.

On Sunday the district programme manager Deepak Gupta was insulted and threatened on his refusal to give vial of the injection Remdesivir for use of it for a patient undergoing treatment in a private hospital here.

Gupta said he told the angry kin of the patient that this injection cannot be given to a patient in the private hospital as such hospital is to have it in a proper legal way only by itself. Gupta said the man just refused to listen to and believe him and vented his ire on him as if he would tear him apart.

Civil surgeon Palamu Anil Kumar Srivastav said such incidents happen almost every day and they are too fed up with this. Srivastav said one vial of this Remdesivir comes for Rs 5,400 and a Covid positive patient needs six such vials of it.

He said the Government is very strict with the injection Remdesivir and under no circumstances this can be so given to the use of the private hospital etc.

Asked as to how the private hospital will procure it to which the civil surgeon said they need to upload their requisition on the portal prescribed for it and then to have it on the digital payment.

Sources said the private hospital in fact mislead the Covid positive patients and their kin and make them feel that they can have this injection free from the government hospital and with this belief the kin of the patient comes to the government hospital and makes a demand of it and when denied uses all the lungs and tongue power to humiliate the health officials.

Sources said many government doctors are at key positions in the private hospitals and it is they who promote the relatives of the Covid positive patients undergoing treatment there in their private hospital to rush to the Government hospital for the Remdesivir vial.

Sources said such kin are not told of the whole lot of restrictions on such deliverance of the Remdesivir vial and they just lose patience and common sense when denied by the government health officials  and then they fly into a rage to intimidate the health officials like hungry lion out to shred off the health officials.

DC Shashi Ranjan has reminded the private hospitals to perform this responsibility of making available this injection and other lifesaving drugs on their own and not to push in their patients to reach government hospitals making impractical demand for the Remdesivir vial. The DC has further asked the private hospitals to get in touch with the drug inspector.
