Himachal CM: State Govt alert to deal with bird flu

Amid the outbreak of bird flu in the state, Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday said that the State Government is alert and active to tackle the situation.

Monitoring of Pong Dam and adjoining areas is being ensured and quick reaction teams have also been constituted to contain the spread of the bird flu, said the Chief Minister while presiding over the review meeting for control of bird flu with Kangra District Administration, Animal Husbandry and WildLife Department at Dharamshala.

Till now, 3702 migratory birds have died at the Pong wetland in Kangra district due to avian influenza-H5N1.

The Chief Minister said that these birds are being buried as per the protocol, to prevent the spread of the virus. 65 teams of Animal Husbandry and WildLife were regularly monitoring the Pong Dam and adjoining areas.

Keeping in view the intensity of bird Flu, samples of poultry have been sent to RDDL Jalandhar by Animal Husbandry Department, he said.

Thakur said that it is important to spread awareness amongst people regarding preventive measures from bird flu and directed the concerned officers to take necessary steps in this direction.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the Covid-19 situation in district Kangra and said that there are about 1200 active cases of Covid-19 in the state, out of which there are three hundred cases in Kangra.

A decline in Covid-19 cases has been observed since December 15, yet it is important to be careful. It is also important to follow the guidelines issued by the Health Department. Arrangements for vaccination campaign of Covid-19 have been completed and the vaccination campaign would be made successful as per guidelines, he added.

The Chief Minister also took stock of the dry run for vaccination campaign at Zonal Hospital Dharamshala.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Prajapati gave details about the arrangements to tackle bird flu situation at Pong Dam,Veterinary doctor Vikram Singh and Conservator Wildlife Department Upasana Patial gave a powerpoint presentation on Bird Flu and Chief Medical Officer Dr Gurdarshan detailed about the present Covid-19 situation in Kangra.
