Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said that free of cost tablets will be given to the students of class XI and XII in government schools across the state. Apart from this, 15,000 tubewell connections will be issued to the farmers soon, he said.
These decisions were taken during the meeting of the High Power Purchase Committee held at Haryana Niwas here on Tuesday.
After the meeting, the Chief Minister told the mediapersons that there were a total of 23 agendas which were tabled during the meeting of the High Power Purchase Committee and decisions related to purchases worth about Rs 1,000 crore were taken.
He informed that the State Government has decided to purchase 5 lakh tablets, which will be given to the students studying in class XI and XII in the coming academic session. A total of Rs 560 crore will be spent to buy these tablets. In future, the government would plan to give tablets to the students of other classes as well, he added.
It was informed that around 4.5 lakh tablets will be purchased for students while around 36000 teachers will also get tablets.
Earlier this year, the State Government had decided to distribute free tablets to students studying from classes 8 to 12. Study material and textbooks would be installed on the tablets in order to encourage learning outside classroom. However, the government has now decided to begin the process of distributing the tablets to class XI and XII and cover other classes next year in a phased manner.
15,000 TUBEWELL CONNECTIONS FOR FARMERS
Khattar said that soon, 15,000 tubewell connections would be provided to farmers. In this regard, the process of purchasing power equipment worth Rs 350 crore was completed during the meeting. Wire, transformer and other equipment will be procured for tube well connection. This will benefit thousands of farmers associated with Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, he said.
Responding to a question, the Chief Minister said that the main objective of the meeting of the High Power Purchase Committee is to save the revenue of the government. Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma, Education Minister Kanwar Pal and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Anoop Dhanak are permanent members of the committee. The Chief Secretary, Director Supplies and Disposal and Additional Chief Secretary of the concerned department are also members.
Whatever goods are to be procured, it is decided by sitting face to face with the person filling the tender. This open procurement process brings transparency and also saves revenue. Priority is given to small and medium scale industries associated with Haryana in procurement, he added.
