Shahjehanabad police booked four persons, including a woman, for a dowry death of 21-year-old married woman who had committed suicide by jumping from terrace at Vajpayee Nagar EWS building on January 2; deceased was harassed by her husband and in-laws.
According to the police, the deceased Anjali Jathav committed suicide after she was harassed by her husband and in laws.
Police have booked deceased’s husband Rajesh Jathav, his brother Sher Singh, and her mother-in-law Geeta Bai and father-in-law Heeralal.
Initially after the preliminary investigation the body was sent for the post mortem and a case under section 174 of the CrPC was registered by the police.
During the further investigation police found that the deceased was harassed by her husband and in-laws demanding dowry and claims of harassment were made by her family in complaint.
The police registered a case under section 304 B of the IPC and section 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act against the three accused.
Notably, deceased Anjali married last year and after few months of the marriage she was harassed for dowry and later depressed over the harassment she committed suicide on January 2.
She jumped from terrace of New EWS and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.
Initially, Rajesh and his family refused regarding any reason behind the suicide but in the investigation it was found that the family used to harass her for dowry.
