: The Indian Medical Association (IMA ) has threatened to close night services at nursing homes and private hospitals owing to the threat to safety of doctors in Jharkhand.
IMA State president Dr AK Singh in a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren cited manhandling of doctors and medical staff of a nursing home in Nishitpur locality about three days ago by leaders of JMM which posed threat to the safety of doctors who are willing to give services even at odd hours.
It's not a single instance and such incidents have been reported from different districts of State too, said Singh.
In the Nishitpur incident a patient was admitted at 3.30am and a doctor was attending to the patient but the socalled JMM activists not only created obstructions in treatment but also mishandled doctor and medical staff for no fault of theirs, he added.
Demanding safety for doctors, the IMA president said if a similar situation prevails we would have no choice left but to shut nursing homes and private hospitals for night shift even for most critical patients.
The IMA president also demanded identification of accused and stern action against them besides safety for doctors.
He has sent separate letters to the health minister and chief secretary too for ensuring security for doctors in Jharkhand.
