The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted heavy to very heavy rains in Bastar region in Chhattisgarh on Monday.
Dr H.P. Chandra of the Raipur IMD centre said Chhattisgarh will also be impacted due to cyclone ‘Gulab’.
Sounding an alert for Bastar, he said: “Gulab cyclone after landfall in northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha will weaken and will enter towards Bastar region in Chhattisgarh because of a depression generated there.
“This will result in heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall in Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada and Bastar districts which would be accompanied by gusty winds with speed of 40 km per hour,” he said.
Heavy rains will also lash Kondagaon, Kanker, Balod, Dhamtari and Gariaband districts.
Also, medium to heavy rains are predicted in Durg and Raipur districts, he added.
