App for Excise and Taxation dept launched

Chandigarh: Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Saturday launched a prototype of 'GST-PV' app for Excise and Taxation Department. Through this app, all the Tax Inspectors of the Excise and Taxation Department will conduct physical verification of the premises of taxpayers with their smartphones.  On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary, Excise and Taxation Department, Anurag Rastogi, Commissioner,  Excise and Taxation Department, Shekhar Vidyarthi and other senior officers of the department were present. After launching the app, the Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the portfolio of the Excise and Taxation Department said that this app will help in quick detection of fake firms that are involved in passing inaccurate input tax-credits. Apart from this, this app will be helpful in registration of tax, which will save the time and resources of the department. He said that at present, tax-inspectors have to visit the firms and manually record the entries after taking the documents, which often leads to complaints of incorrect and inconsistent data filling, while the whole process will be automated through this app and the tax-inspector can feed their data directly.

Petroleum Conservation Campaign Kicks Off

Chandigarh: To sensitise the citizens about the acute need for petroleum conservation, a month-long campaign, Saksham 2021 (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav) took off at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Sector 26 here on Saturday.   K. Siva Prasad, Principal Secretary, Transport, Punjab inaugurated Saksham 2021 through a web meeting. Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas through PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) and Oil PSUs have been conducting fuel conservation drives all over India. Sujoy Choudhury, State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry), Punjab and Executive Director, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Chandigarh while speaking on the occasion said, “In 1991 a campaign started to conserve the natural resources and since then a lot of campaigns and activities have been taken up. ‘Saksham 2021’campaign will sensitize citizens through conferences, skits, painting competitions and a number of activities aimed to educate the public how important it was to preserve natural resources for a better environment.”  Shalabh Raj Gupta, State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry), U.T. Chandigarh & Chief Regional Manager (Retail), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Chandigarh Regional Office welcomed  the Chief Guest and other senior dignitaries.

Cold wave conditions persist in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh: Cold wave conditions prevailed in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, with Bathinda registering a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius.  Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala braved the chill at 6.5, 7.8 and 6.7 degrees Celsius, respectively, up to three degrees above normal.  Pathankot, Adampur, Halwara Faridkot and Gurdaspur recorded minimum temperatures of 5, 6.8, 6.1, 6.6 and 9.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.  In Haryana, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal experienced cold weather conditions at 5, 4.2 and 4.9 degrees Celsius, respectively, up two degrees below normal.  Narnaul, Rohtak, Bhiwani and Sirsa registered their minimum temperatures at 5, 6.2, 6.6 and 5.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.  Chandigarh, the joint capital of both states, recorded its low at 5.8 degrees Celsius. A thick blanket of fog enveloped many places in Punjab and Haryana in the morning, causing inconvenience to commuters.
