PSPCL starts installation of Smart Meters
Patiala: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has started installation of Smart Meters in Punjab with the installation for a consumer in Mohali. A.Venu Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary Excise and Taxation and CMD PSPCL and Parmjeet Singh, Director Generation were present in the installation. Smart meters will help to curb the malpractice of reading concealment and theft of electricity and improve the reading and billing efficiency and quality. Smart meters will enable consumers to view instantaneous/live data as well as the last bill data via PSPCL Consumer App, besides maintaining and regulating power consumption. Smart meters will have the option to change meter to prepaid or post-paid.
E-Daakhil portal to revolutionise grievances
Chandigarh: Launched with the aim to streamline the entire grievances redressal system, the E-Daakhil portal would provide much needed respite to consumers and provide them a speedy remedial platform in Punjab with its seamless and synergised mechanism, said Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu. He said, the online platform is yet another endeavour of the State Government towards technological advancements in the public sector. He said E-Daakhil has been developed under the new Consumer Protection Act 2019 envisages filling of consumer disputes electronically to Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission.
‘COVID impacted physical fitness of sportspersons’
Chandigarh: Sports experts from the city deliberated on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the sporting activities in the city. They felt COVID had impacted not only physical fitness of sport persons but also had a psychological impact. They were speaking at a webinar on ‘New Norm in Sports during COVID Times’ organized by Trinity Hospital in collaboration with UT Sports Department and UT Cricket Association. Sanjay Tandon, President, UT Cricket Association (UTCA) was the chief guest on the occasion while Tejdeep Singh Saini, Sports Director, UT, was the guest of honour. The purpose of holding the webinar was to deliberate over the challenges faced by the sporting fraternity during COVID time’s and how to overcome those challenges to accept the situation as new normal.
PGIMER’s conference on ‘Drug Designing concludes
Chandigarh: As a part of Drug design-2021, virtual conference entitled “Drug Designing against SARS-COV-2” was organized by the Experimental Pharmacology Laboratory (EPL), Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER and Medical Pharmacological Society (MPS). More than 100 delegates from prestigious National and International institutes (King George's Medical University Lucknow, GMC Palakkad Kerala, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Delhi, IIT DELHI, Princess Nourahbint Abdulrahman University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia etc.) attended the conference.
‘Punjab CM, Mins lied holding Sri Gutka Sahib’
Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Kisan wing president and MLA from Kotkapura, Kultar Singh Sandhwan said the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and his Ministers no longer had the right to speak and talk about ‘religion and gurus’. He said the Congress leaders had taken false oaths to get the votes of the gullible people and later gave up the oath as soon as they got seat and power; thus hurting the feelings of the people. “What happened to the disrespect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the promise to send the culprits of martyred Sikhs behind bars?”, he asked.
FIR registered against Pipe and Barrel Bar’s owner
Chandigarh: A case under Section 188, 270 IPC and Section 58 of Disaster Management Act 2005 has been registered in Police Station Sector 3, against owner Sumesh Gagneja, resident of 1466, Progressive Society, Sector-50 here for serving hukka to customers at his Pipe and Barrel Bar, SCO No. 156-157, Sector-9 C here and violateing the orders of District Magistrate, Chandigarh. Investigation of the case is in progress, the official spokesman said.
