Chandigarh Mayor meets UT Adviser

Chandigarh: The newly elected Chandigarh Mayor Ravi Kant Sharma and MCC Commissioner KK Yadav on Friday met Manoj Parida, Adviser to the UT Administrator to discuss various issues of revenue generation for Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh. The Mayor said, the Adviser has assured to release grant in aid amounting to Rs 100 crores. Rs 30 crore special grant for development of 13 villages will be released upto March, 2021 and Rs 12 crore will be incurred by Engineering Department for development works in these villages. Rs 80 lakh have been assured for ward development fund for each councilor, he said.

national championship on driving safe from Jan 18

Chandigarh: All-Women Teams of Challengers on a never before mission from Wagah Border to Kanyakumari will drive to win India’s 1st ever national championship on driving safe. The championship being organised by NGO, Drive Smart, Drive Safe will be flagged off on January 18 and will pass through different parts of the country including Chandigarh. These women will take on a never before mission on a 24x7 Live-On-Camera National Championship of Safe Driving, defeating 3.5 lakh potholes and road risks on Indian roads.

Over 30kg opium, 53,200 banned tablets recovered

Chandigarh: Stepping up vigil against smuggling of narcotics, Haryana Police in separate incidents have seized 30 kg 340 gram opium, 53,200 tablets fallen under the category of banned drugs and 384 bottles of country made liquor from Karnal and Sirsa districts. Five accused were also arrested in this connection. A spokesperson informed, a special task force team during checking near village Andhera in Karnal had intercepted a truck. Search of the vehicle led to seizure of 30 kg 340 gram opium. Police has also recovered Rs 8 lakh cash from the cabin of the truck. Arrested accused were identified as Darshan Singh and Devender Singh alias Vicky, both residents of district Patiala, Punjab.
