Landmine blast in Malkangiri, jawan injured
Malkangiri: A BSF jawan was critically injured as a landmine allegedly planted by Maoists exploded near Gogpadar village under Mathili block of Malkangiri district on Sunday. The jawan, identified as Dharmendra Sahoo, sustained injuries on his left leg and was hospitalised. The explosion took place when security forces were returning after carrying out an anti-Maoist combing operation in the area. Combing operation was intensified in the region after the landmine blast.
Fire breaks out at OPTCL Dhenkanal grid
Dhenkanal: A major fire broke out at the grid substation of the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) in Dhenkanal district on Sunday. The mishap took place at around 7 am while the reason behind the outbreak of fire was yet to be ascertained. No casualty or injuries have been reported in the incident so far. As many as 10 fire tenders were engaged to douse the flames.
Ganja smuggling to Bengaluru busted in K’mal
Phulbani: The Gachhapada police in Kandhamal district on Saturday seized around 5.15 quintals of ganja worth approximately Rs 10 lakh and arrested six persons in this connection. Police also seized three mobile phones and a bank passbook. Out of the arrested, five persons are locals and one from Bengaluru. The contraband was smuggled to Bengaluru from the agency areas of Kandhamal. Police have registered a case against eight accused persons involved in the smuggling.
