Local deluxe buses launched in Faridabad

Chandigarh: Haryana Transport Minister Mool Chand Sharma said with the introduction of local deluxe city bus service in Faridabad city, thousands of people will be able to reach their destinations everyday while saving them their time and money. Sharma said this city bus service will prove to be effective in making Faridabad pollution-free. These CNG 10 buses will run on different routes in Faridabad city at Ballabhgarh, Greater Faridabad, Old Faridabad, NIT Metro and Railway stations among other public places, he added.

PGSC celebrates National Science Day

Kapurthala: Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala, in collaboration with IISER Mohali and   Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, on Sunday celebrated National Science Day in virtual mode. Around 200 students from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and the neighbouring states participated in the program, organized on the theme of ‘Future of STI: Impacts on Education, Skills and Work’. PGSC director-general Dr Neelima Jerath called upon the teaching community to motivate students to learn and apply scientific concepts in their daily life so as to ignite their interest in research and innovation.

CUPB celebrates its 12th foundation day

 Bathinda: The eight-day celebrations of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, (CUPB) commemorating its 12 glorious years in teaching and research concluded with a special programme on Sunday. The celebrations, conducted under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari, was special as it included cultural activities, sports meet, ideathon, food carnival, international science quiz, and academic events. The chief guest of CUPB Foundation Day function was Nalanda University’s chancellor Padma Bhushan Prof Vijay P Bhatkar, who encouraged researchers to focus on interdisciplinary research and find innovative solutions to social problems.

49th Rose Festival ends with award ceremony

Chandigarh: The 49th Rose Festival ended with the award ceremony to honour Corona warriors of the city here at Rose Garden, Sector 16. Ravi Kant Sharma, Mayor Chandigarh said this year, the MCC could not organize various competitions during this Rose festival due to COVID-19 guidelines, while some flower arrangements have been done by the Horticulture Department, MCC. He said that next year will be the golden jubilee of the Rose Festival and will be celebrated with full fervor. The Mayor and MCC Commissioner honoured the representatives of 82 Resident Welfare Associations, 36 NGOs of city and 37 individuals including officials of UT Administration and social workers of city, 230 employees of MCC including Gardeners, Safaikarmacharis and other workers through their respective Head of Departments during the programme.

Campaign held on waste management

Chandigarh: Debendra Dalai, Member Secretary CPCC and Director, UT Environment Department flagged off a campaign for awareness on waste segregation and plastic waste management at Sukhna Lake. Cycling and recycling were the two key highlights of the event. Cyclists were requested to become the torch bearers of this campaign. “First of its kind” cycle canvas bags were given to over 300 cyclists starting 6 am. These bags retrofit seamlessly into the cycle frame and have multiple pockets to help cyclists store items safely and separately while cycling. The quote, "My Chandigarh, My Responsibility" written on these bags brings a sense of ownership among the citizens to manage their waste responsibly by segregating at source, Dalai said.
