‘Fog Safe Device' in ECR trains
In view of the possible fog during winter season, several steps are being taken by East Central Railway for protected train operation so that the delay of trains during fog is minimized and passengers do not suffer. For this purpose, fog safe devices have been installed in the locomotives. For smooth running of trains, provision of fog safe device has been made for loco pilots of 100 per cent Mail/Express and Passenger trains of ECR. It may be noted that Fog Safe Device is a GPS based device which alerts the Loco Pilot of the oncoming signal by which the Loco Pilot controls the speed of the trains. Apart from this, fog men are also being deployed who will monitor the signal position on the railway line during fog. Continuous patrolling is being done by the railway personnel under the supervision of higher officials for prevention of rail fracture and its timely identification. This will increase the safety on one hand and help in maintaining punctuality in spite of fog. GPS is also being made available to the employees doing line patrol so that they can also protect themselves.
