Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Srinivas BV on Friday said the Crime Branch of Delhi Police questioned him about the assistance being provided by him to people during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the Delhi Police said the questioning has been done following a Delhi High Court order. According to a senior police officer, the High Court has directed the city police to conduct an inquiry into
politicians involved in the distribution of Covid-19 medicines and other items to people, and lodge an FIR in case of an offence.
“In compliance with the directions of the High Court, an inquiry is being conducted into the work being done by several people,” said a police officer.
“The police called me this morning and came to my office around 11.45 am. They asked me how I was doing all the work for Covid-19 victims,” said Srinivas.
Earlier, on Tuesday the police had contacted Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Dilip Pandey following the High Court’s order to examine the instances of politicians allegedly procuring and distributing Remdesivir, used for treating Covid-19 patients, in the national Capital.
The police’s move came after AAP MLA Pandey accused the Centre of “harassing” him for helping people during the pandemic and alleged that a team of the Crime Branch questioned him.
A senior police officer said, “On a writ petition filed by one Dr Deepak Singh about politicians involved in illegal distribution of Covid medicines etc, the Delhi High Court has directed the city police to conduct an enquiry and we are following the court’ s order.”
