In the Kumbh Mela, a group of saints are attracting the attention of people due to their attire. They can be easily distinguished by their special headgear consisting of peacock feathers. Wearing white and saffron clothes, these Sadhus sing songs of Lord Shiva and visit different Akhadas of the saints. Interestingly these Sadhus seek Bhiksha (Alms) only from other Sadhus and not from the general public. During Kumbh one can witness them visiting one Akhada after another and singing songs in the glory of Lord Shiva. One Jangam Sadhu told The Pioneer that there are about 5,000 Sadhus like them in the country. Legend has it that these Sadhus were created by Lord Shiva himself from his thigh at the time of his marriage with Parvati.
The Jangam Sadhus are Shaivites and have families. From childhood, they are taught Shiv Puran and other scriptures related to Lord Shiva and they make their living from seeking alms from other Sadhus.
