Incensed at his love interest’s marriage being fixed with another person, a jilted lover attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon and later stabbed himself in Maharajganj on Monday morning. Both were admitted to the District Hospital from where the girl was referred to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur for intensive care. No case was registered at the time of filing this report as police claimed that they did not receive any complaint from the girl’s family.
As per reports, a youth from Pipra hamlet of Sadar Kotwali area was having an affair with a local Dalit girl for the last few months. The youth wanted to marry her but the girl’s family objected to their relationship. To put an end to the affair, the family somehow convinced the girl and fixed her marriage with another youth on May 29.
Upon learning of the development, the youth called the girl on Monday morning and tried to convince her to elope with him. However, when the girl refused and told him that she would marry with her parent’s consent, the youth lost his temper. He whipped out a knife and stabbed her multiple times before local villagers could rush to her rescue. On being apprehended by the locals, the youth tried to end his life by stabbing himself. Police force was deployed in the village to avert any caste-based conflagration.
Meanwhile in Jhansi, four people were killed and one injured after a speeding car knocked down two motorcycles before  ramming into a tree near Farida village of Gursahai police station area late on Sunday night. The injured were admitted to Jhansi Medical College hospital. Among the deceased were three bike-borne people and the car driver. They were identified as Surendra Kumar (18), Nathu Dhobi (55), Sukhlal (30) and Adarsh. A case was registered and the bodies were sent for autopsy.
