Joda locals complain against liquor shop

Thursday, 25 November 2021 | PNS | CHAMPUA

Local people opposing a foreign liquor shop at Bilaipada village under Joda block submitted a petition to the district Collector and Excise Superintendent here on Tuesday.

The villagers said that Bilaipada is a tribal populated area. The liquor shop is situated by NH -520 and remains open 24 hours in violation of the Government rules. This has pushed up liquor consumption among the tribals and led to social tension.

People are taking alcohol in open space for which common people, particularly the women, feel unsafe to pass by the road in night, they alleged.

They further complained that the shop was selling wine at more than the MRP.

When contacted, Excise Superintendent, Keonjhar Sitakanta Muduli told that three petitions including the one by the Bilaipada locals have been received by him and an inquiry will be conducted soon. He informed that the other petitions are from Pandapada  and Khalana.
