JPCC chief writes to CM for compensation to Covid victims

Sunday, 28 November 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

JPCC President Rajesh Thakur has written a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren requesting him that the families of those killed by Covid-19 should get financial compensation, referring to the failure of the Modi government at the Center and demanded that the State government should pay a compensation of Rs 1 lakh as its share in the National Disaster Management Authority.

Thakur said that former Congress President Rahul Gandhi had said in the past that the government should give Rs 4 lakh to the family of every person, who lost his life due to Covid-19. For this, his party will put pressure on the Central government because the Central government is going to give financial help to the corporate houses and they do not have money for the people who died of Covid-19.

Thakur said that the Center filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court on September 11, saying that it is unable to give Rs 4 lakh to the families of those affected by Covid, the Center can only give an ex-gratia amount of Rs 50,000 as it does not have enough funds. Thakur said that it is very funny that the Centre continues to charge on the increased fuel prices.

The JPCC chief said that the participation of the Center and the State in the National Disaster Management Authority is 75 and 25 per cent respectively.

In such a situation, the share of the Centre in providing financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh. As a welfare State, it is our responsibility to help our citizens in need and pressure can be put on the central government to give financial compensation to the people.
