Jumbo carcass found in A'garh; cause not known

A carcass of a female elephant aged about seven years was found in a corn field near Balipada village under Rajnagar forest beat area in Athagarh on Tuesday afternoon. When the local farmers were going to their corn fields for crop cutting, they stumbled upon the dead pachyderm lying in a corn field.

They informed the forest officials regarding the dead tusker immediately. Athagarh DFO Sudarsan Gopinath Jadav along with his team reached at the spot, seized the carcass and intimated the higher authorities on the matter. When the DFO called the local veterinary surgeon for autopsy, it was twilight for which the same was deferred to Wednesday, told BVO Dr Susant Behera. A veterinary doctors' team will visit the spot, participate in the autopsy work and assess the cause of its death, said in-charge Forest Range Officer of AthagarhGajendra Pal Singh Mathur.
