Kejriwal says he has imitators in Punjab

Tuesday, 23 November 2021 | Monika Malik | Chandigarh

For every original, there is an imitation. And Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal believes he is no exception. Without naming anyone, Kejriwal on Monday said that he has reasons to believe that he has imitators in Punjab and a “fake Kejriwal” is roaming around, making the same promises, asking the people to “beware”.

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) supremo Kejriwal, in an apparent dig at Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, said: “These days a ‘nakli Kejriwal’ is roaming in Punjab. Whatever I promise, he announces it the next day but doesn’t implement it. Beware of him. Only asli Kejriwal can fulfil what he promises.”

“In the entire country, only one man, Kejriwal, can bring down your electricity bill to zero. So beware of that fake Kejriwal,” said AAP’s national convener, in clear reference to Channi’s promise to bring down power rates by Rs 3 across all category of consumers.

Further, Kejriwal added, “Fake Kejriwal will make a lot of promises. Like the previous Chief Minister, he will make a lot of promises. They have no intention of fulfilling the promise by making promises before the election.”

The statement came on a day when both Kejriwal and Channi were in Ludhiana. Also hours before was scheduled to meet the auto and taxi drivers in a “pre-scheduled” programme at Ludhiana in the evening, Punjab Chief Minister Channi made a “surprise halt” at Ludhiana’s Gill chowk — an auto-rickshaws stand —to listen to the problems of the auto rickshaw drivers.

“I have a conversation programme with the auto rickshaw drivers or owners of Ludhiana this evening. The ‘nakli Kejriwal’ came to know about this as the meeting was scheduled 10 days ago. The ‘nakli Kejriwal’ reached the auto-rickshaw owners’ office this morning. Still, I think fear is good. He may do something out of fear of the real Kejriwal, but he cannot do, because he is ‘nakli’,” said Kejriwal.

Kejriwal, addressing a programme in Moga, Kejriwal said: “I came to Punjab and guaranteed free electricity. Two days later, the ‘nakli Kejriwal’ rumoured that he had provided 400 units of electricity in Punjab for free, but the reality is that not a single person in Punjab could say that his electricity bill was zero. Even today, ordinary household bills are coming in at Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000, but the ‘nakli Kejriwal’ is making fun of the people by lying.”

Referring to his announcement to set up Mohalla clinics, Kejriwal said: “In the second guarantee on health, I promised to set up 16,000 Mohalla Clinics in Punjab. ‘Nakli Kejriwal’ said that he (Channi) would also set up Mohalla clinics. Not a single Mohalla clinic has been set up in the last two months; while building a Mohalla Clinic takes only 10 days and Rs 20 lakhs. Would have made one for show-off; he could not make it because he is a Nakli Kejriwal.”

Kejriwal went on to add that former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had also imitated the Delhi Government and declared free bus service for women. “But it was incomplete because Capt Amarinder had provided free travel to women only in government buses,” he said.
