Around 150 children from 11 communities in Chhatabar, Binjhagiri, Pitagadia Bhoi Sahiu, Jamujhari, Dalua, Bhola, Kujimahal, Daspur, Chudang, Krushananagar and Mahimanagar from Chandaka, Daruthenga, Kantabada, Chhatabar panchayats of Bhubaneswar and Jatni block in Khurdha have done a commendable job this month.
They have engaged themselves in cleaning of their surroundings including their houses and common places of the communities. The places near the community centers, ICDS centers, school campus, tuition centers are the targeted areas. Unwanted plants, shrubs and unwanted heaps were cleaned.
Apart from this they planted 200 trees including mango, jackfruit, papaya, lemon etc. in various places in the vicinity. The uncared plants rooted in odd places were replanted in proper places after cleaning the surroundings.
These activities were undertaken under Family Strengthening Program of SOS Children’s Villages Bhubaneswar beginning from July on every Sunday. The inspiration came from the Van Mahotsav Week celebrated in July first week.
The children have spared 2 hours on every Sunday during morning times with support from the Animators, Tutors, Self Help Group leaders and the village leaders. The staffs of Family Strengthening Program were instrumental in providing the leadership. The positive action has given them enough joy and satisfaction during the Covid lockdown.
