A first full-fledged residential National Chess Academy would be set up at KIIT and KISS, announced Sanjay Kapoor and Bharat Singh Chouhan, president and secretary of All Indian Chess Federation, respectively on Saturday.
A unanimous decision to this effect was made at the Central and General
Council meetings of the federation held at Jaipur, Rajasthan.
While initially, the intake capacity of the academy would be 100 students, they would be transformed into Masters and Grand Masters after pursuing proper education and training.
Dr Samanta thanked president Kapoor and secretary Chouhan of Chess Federation for the decision. He also thanked Odisha Chess Association president Ranjan Mohanty as well as newly-elected joint secretary of AICF Debabratta Bhatta and secretary IM Shekhar Sahoo .
