A major fire broke out at four showrooms and later spread to another store in south Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar Central Market area on Saturday morning. No injuries were reported during the incident. Soon after the fire incident was reported, taking to Twitter, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that fire tenders have reached the spot, relief and rescue work is going on. “I am constantly monitoring the situation and in constant touch with the fire department officials,” the CM tweeted in hindi.
According to Atul Garg, the Director, Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call about the blaze was received around 10.20 am, following which 16 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
“Around 10.30 am, when fire tenders reached the spot, all four showrooms were on fire and later spread to the fifth shop. So, it is very difficult to say at this point that from which shop the fire broke out first. It appeared that the fire must have started early morning and spread to rest of the areas because it is very unlikely that fire can start in all the four separate showrooms simultaneously. It must have started from one and spread to rest,” said Garg,
“The fire could control the fire from spreading further because they deployed several fire tenders on ground as soon as they received an initial call. In total, 30 fire tenders were deployed on ground and over 100 fire-fighters were involved in bringing the fire under control,” said Garg adding that the cause of the fire is not known yet.
