Limited impact of cyclone Jawad in Jharkhand

Much hyped cyclonic storm Jawad is likely to have an impact on the State on Saturday and Sunday. According to the Ranchi Center of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the effect of the cyclonic storm will be limited so that on Friday Ranchi, IMD did not issue any alert in this regard.    

Deputy Director IMD, Ranchi, Abhisek Anand said that the Deep Depression over West-Central Bay of Bengal moved North-North-Westwards with a speed of 25 kmph during past 06 hours, intensified further into Cyclonic Storm ‘Jawad’ (Pronounces as JOWAD) and lay centered at 11:30 AM on Friday, over West-Central of Bengal near Lattitude 14.5°N and Longitude 85.5°E, about 420 km South-South- East of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, 530 km South-South-East of Gopalpur,   Odisha and 650 km South-South-West of Paradip, Odisha.

“It is likely to move North-Westwards and reach West-Central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh – South Odisha coasts by tomorrow, on Saturday morning.  Thereafter it is likely to recurve North-North-Eastwards and move along the Odisha coast reaching near Puri around Sunday noon. Subsequently it is likely to continue to move North-North-Eastwards towards the West Bengal coast,” said Anand.

Meanwhile, General Manager, South Eastern Railway (SER), Archana Joshi held a high level meeting at Kolkata Headquarters on Thursday regarding preparedness of SER in view of Cyclone “JAWAD”. All Principal Head of the Departments attended the meeting. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Kharagpur attended the meeting through Video Conferencing. Joshi stressed on taking all sorts of precautionary measures to ensure safety of the passengers as well as railway installations.

The General Manager said to put close watch on Railway Bridges, Tracks, Yards and Signaling System, Silt, Vegetation and other obstructions should be cleared from catch water and side drains, close coordination should be maintained with State Government officials, all DG sets, diesel pump, earth moving equipment and others should be kept ready,  patrolling at vulnerable locations should be started by deputing Patrolmen and Watchmen, teams for cutting uprooted tree should be kept alert at critical locations, arrangements should be made to stock sufficient quantity of track maintenance reserve materials, constant watch should be kept over advisories issued by Meteorological Department, additional Control Room and Disaster Management Cell of SER to be opened.
