Loyolean girl's rendezvous with the world of modelling

Monday, 26 April 2021 | Parvinder Bhatia | Jamshedpur

City-born Pragati Srivastava feels she is living a fairy tale. With a movie in her kitty, the slim and fair beauty feels that she will make it big in the world of cinema.

To become an actress is what she calls her long-cherished dream. “I’ve always been fascinated with the world of cinema and had never imagined myself entering those gates. I remember watching too much FashionTV when I was young. I would get odd clothes for myself and I loved dressing up since my childhood. It gives me immense joy to see where I am today,” said Pragati.

Born and brought up in Jamshedpur she did her schooling from Little Flower School and Loyola School. A proverbial beauty with brains, currently she is pursuing Masters in Public Policy from St. Xavier’s College Mumbai.

While in Delhi, she got an offer from an agency of which she was quite unsure of but later decided to take a risk at. After sheer determination and a lot of efforts at convincing her parents, she started with her own chosen path.

She started her career with print shoots for brands like Vishal Mega Mart, Sunsilk, Malabar Gold. She has also worked for renowned fashion designers like Anju Modi, ShantanuNikhil, and Sunita Shekhawat.

Following famous television commercials for brands like Kalyan Jewellers, PhonePe , Khimji Jewels, she is also ready to set fire on the big screen.

“Currently I have completed shooting for a Telugu movie which is planned to release in June. I cannot disclose the name for now as it is confidential as part of the contract,” she said. She is also getting offers from Hindi movies too and would love to show her talent in Bollywood.

She belongs to an academically inclined family, and gets full support from her parents and sibling. “Initially when my parents came to know about my decision they were a bit shocked as I was no doubt always a creative child but taking up a career so risky wasn’t very advisable. With the passage of time and good results , my parents also made peace with my decision of acting/modelling. My parents always encourage any form of art,” smiles Pragati.

Due to her earnest desire of getting popular and remaining on the top, the upcoming actress started following her passion right from the school days by participating in co-curricular activities.

“Since childhood I have loved painting , singing and dancing. The love for acting grew more after I participated in plays, elocutions etc in school activities. The appreciation I received in return motivated me to further pursue acting,” she shared.

Talking about talent she said that every budding actor should constantly focus on acquiring her skills rather than getting disappointed. Sheer hard work and talent will definitely fulfil their dreams.Pragati says  “I remember back in school days I would play basketball before school and go for athletics after. I had also received the award for the best athlete in 10th grade. My parents would often laugh and say that I’d become a jack of all trades. Today I realise that it is all that hard work that is paying now.”

When questioned over talent in small towns she said that there is a host of hidden talents among girls of small cities like Jamshedpur but the need is that they must get the right platform to display their talents.
