Prominent cleric of Darul Uloom Deoband and head of a faction of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, Maulana Arshad Madani is being targeted by Islamic radical elements for his appeal to secular forces to come together to fight sectarianism and hate. The Islamic radicals have targeted Madani for seeking help from Hindus.
Earlier, Maulana Madani had tweeted, “Fighting sectarianism is the responsibility of all sections of society, not Muslims alone. We cannot win the war against sectarianism alone. We have to bring together all secular-minded people of the society. We have to come together to put out this fire of hatred and sectarianism,”
In response, Madani was attacked by Islamists who are not too happy at non-Muslims being invited to fight sectarianism. In fact, some even felt that the majority of Hindus “were so rotten to the core”, it would not be a great idea to invite them to “fight sectarianism”.
Arshad Madani had recently said that he did not believe that the Taliban was a terror outfit and instead considered them as freedom fighters. Madani said that if fighting against subjugation was terrorism, then by this logic, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Maulana Hazrat Shekhuddin were also terrorists.
Taliban follows the Deobandi version of Sunni Islam.
A Twitter user posted how the majority of Hindus are rotten to the core and radicalised. He claimed the rest of the non-rotten, non-radicalised Hindus were silently approving the “majoritarian terrorism” and hence, they (Hindus) should not be made “our heroes, use our stage and make their career by backstabbing us”. He claimed that the battle of Muslims must be fought alone.
Earlier, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind had come to the rescue of alleged Al Qaeda terrorists nabbed by UP ATS in Lucknow and said that they would provide legal assistance to them.
“The process of using terrorism as a weapon to destroy the lives of Muslim youth continues. Our legal struggle will continue till the honourable release of innocent Muslims,” Maulana Arshad Madani had said while speaking about legal aid to terror suspects. Prior to that, the Jamiat had also offered legal and financial support to Islamists accused in the Kamlesh Tiwari murder case in Lucknow.
