Considering the approaching monsoon season, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) set up the disaster control room on its premises on Thursday to tackle water logging issues in the city. Water logging is one of the prominent issues in Dehradun every year during the rainy season.
Overflowing drains and flooded roads can be observed at various locations in the city despite the claims of the MCD officials every year that they start cleaning drains before the arrival of monsoon to prevent water logging. According to municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, the disaster control room would help locals to approach the corporation with any water logging related issues during the monsoon. Pandey said that the local residents can complain anytime as the MCD's team would be available to tackle the issues round the clock. The commissioner said that he has appointed four nodal officers to monitor the work in the control room on a daily basis. Moreover, he added that ten sanitation inspectors have been instructed to monitor the water logging situation in their respective areas in the city and resolve the issue as soon as possible. The sanitation inspectors would also inform the disaster control room of the MCD as well as the district control room about the issues or complaints they receive in their respective areas. To contact the disaster control room of the MCD, people can call the telephone number 0135-2652571 and toll free number 18001804153 issued by the corporation.
Meanwhile, the municipal commissioner also stated that the corporation would take action against those officials who are found to be negligent towards discharging their duties.
