Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna announced Rs 50 lakh as financial assistance and a government job for a family member of Indian Army Sepoy Saraj Singh, who was martyred during a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
One Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four jawans of the Indian Army lost their lives during the counter-terror operation at Poonch.
The last rites of Singh were performed at his native village in Shahjahanpur on Thursday. A native of Banda in Uttar Pradesh, Singh is survived by two brothers, his wife and his mother and was among three brothers.
“We have provided Rs 50 lakh as financial assistance to the family. A road will be named after him and a government job will be given to a family member," Khanna announced on Thursday.
