Chhattisgarh Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar on Friday announced that cash incentive given to winners from the Forest Department in sports events will be raised. He also gave away Rs 34.66 lakhs to 154 players who won various medals.
The Minister made the pledge while saying that sports helps to develop sportsmanship in people which in turn guides one to success.
He gave away prizes totalling Rs 34.66 lakhs to 154 players of the Forest Department who won gold, silver and bronze medals in the 25th All India Forest Sports Competition in Bhubaneswar in March 2020.
A total of 202 participants from the Forest Department of Chhattisgarh took part in sports including athletics, cricket, football, hockey, tennis, volley and basketball.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Rakesh Chaturvedi received Rs 29,000 and the Managing Director of the Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce Co-op Federation Ltd, Sanjay Shukla, got Rs 1 lakh.
Chaturvedi told The Pioneer that the Minister has asked the department to prepare a proposal to hike the cash incentive given to departmental players that has been stagnant for years.
Akbar also called for upgradimg the sports facilities available for the Forest Department employees.
