Thursday, 09 September 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the 10-day Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya as the Uttar Pradesh government will host Deepotsav, the last mega event of Yogi Adityanath’s tenure as chief minister before Uttar Pradesh goes to polls in early 2022.

UP Minority Affairs Minister Mohsin Raza, in a statement on Wednesday, said: "This time a new record will be made in Deepotsav at Ayodhya as more than seven lakh diyas will be lit in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This will be a world record."

Mohsin Raza further said that the prime minister would inaugurate the Deepotsav on November 3 in the presence of several dignitaries.

The Diwali celebrations in the temple town will be very special this year with the Deepotsav theme likely to be designed by Nitin Chandrakant Desai, the person who has made magnificent sets for several Bollywood blockbusters.

The sets of the star-studded Ramlila on the banks of Saryu and city’s landscape will be decorated to imitate the Treta Yug of Lord Ram.

Meanwhile, senior officials of the Tourism and Culture departments and Ayodhya Development Authority have begun preparations on a war footing for the event, which will also witness a new Guinness record of lighting 6.5lakh diyas.

“Over 7,000 students, mainly from Saket Degree College, will be deployed at the ghats of Ayodhya to light the diyas. The whole process will be rehearsed thrice so that everything goes well on the Deepotsav day,” a senior official in the district administration said and added that officials from the Guinness Book of World Record would be there to witness the event.
