A ‘mosquito terminator’ train to spray insecticide on both sides of rail tracks to prevent growth of mosquito larvae was flagged off by the Member of Parliament from East Delhi Manoj Tiwari on Friday in collaboration with Northern Railway.
Speaking on the occasion, Tiwari said that the terminator train will spread insecticide around the railway tracks to reduce the menace of dengue, malaria and chikungunya.
EDMC Deputy Mayor Kiran Vaidya said that various awareness programmes and measures have been taken by the civic body to protect the people from vector borne diseases. “The areas around the railway line were left unattended. During rainy days, water logging is very common around the railway tracks which increases the possibility of mosquito breeding,” she added.
The Deputy Mayor said that the “Mosquito Terminator Action” in collaboration with the Railways is a positive effort to protect the people around the railway line from the serious threat of dengue and chikungunya.
