Namaz offered in G’gram despite disruption by outfits

Saturday, 27 November 2021 | Parvesh Sharma | Gurugram

More than 50 Muslims performed Friday Namaz at a corner of an open ground located at Sector-37 which is also adjoining to the Sector-37 police station despite disruptions by Hindu organisations.

Meanwhile, at the same location, Hindu organisations also offered Hawan and Aarti in their attempt to stop Friday Namaz in an open area.

Many members of Hindu organisations had gathered at the site on Friday morning at around 11 am and performed Hawan and Aarti.

They also shouted slogans such as “Jai Shree Ram”, “ Hanuman Chalisa” and sang religious Bhajans.

However, the heavy police force was also stationed at the spot to avoid any untoward incidents. Police officials in plain clothes were also present at the spot to assess the situation.

Hazi Shahad Khan, Chairman Muslim Ekta Manch, who performed Namaz along with Muslim people at the site said, “Sector-37 site was one of the designated sites for Namaz and since 18-20 years Muslims are performing Friday Namaz here and there was no disruption since then but last one month few people of Hindu organisation are trying to continuously disrupt Friday prayers which will not be tolerated. We will soon approach before the local authority against this act.”

Meanwhile, Hindu organisations said they will not allow anyone to grab land in the name of religious activities.

“We had informed the district administration that we will perform Hawan and Aarti at the Sector-37 ground. This was not a designated site for Namaz it is an illegal activity that is being done by Muslims. Local used to play cricket here and the Muslims are disrupting their game,” said a member of a Hindu organisation.

The Hindu organisations also claimed that they had performed hawan to pay homage to the soldiers who were martyred during the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai.

Meanwhile, several Muslims performed Friday prayers at the ground without mats. Few also offered Namaz while standing.

“We have written permission of 20 sites for Friday prayers in Gurugram and Sector-37 was one of them. This site was decided on a committee in front of the District Commissioner Gurugram, in which Hindu organization people were also present. Few anti-social elements are behind today’s incident. The administration needs to take strict action against such people. If such people disrupt Namaz everywhere then where we will offer Friday Namaz” Muhammad Aslam, a committee member said.

Apart from this, a delegation of Sikh Sangat on Friday said, in Gurudwaras, only Gurubani can be performed and no other religious activities will be permitted. The delegation cleared that no Friday Namaz will be allowed in Gurudwara premises.
