Naxalite who fled Danetwada jail held

A Naxalite wanted in the 2007 Dantewada jail break has been arrested iin Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said on Thursday.

Punem Bhima alias Chula (40) was a militia member of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said.

He was caught from the jungles of Nadpalli on Wednesday by a joint team of the CRPF, STF and district police.

Bhima was among 299 inmates including 110 Naxalites who escaped in a daring jail break in Danetwada in December 2007.

He was involved in the 2021 killing of an assistant police constable.
