NEIFW virtual event concludes successfully

Monday, 26 July 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The fifth North-East India Traditional Fashion Week (NEIFW) organised by the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) concluded in Dehradun on Sunday.

The two-day programme displayed the culture, arts and crafts of northeast India through the online platform which was virtually inaugurated by the Union Minister Virendra Kumar on Saturday in the presence of Union Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhowmik and A Narayanaswamy among others. Addressing the event, Kumar said that such events will generate employment opportunities besides encouraging entrepreneurship avenues for differently-abled people.

Many national programmes are being launched and implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to benefit such people and therefore, all national institutions under the department of empowerment of persons with disabilities must act as a strong link between beneficiaries and the government, stated the union minister.

The main highlights of the event were workshops conducted on skill and entrepreneurship building besides the awareness programmes and the display of the traditional cultural festivals of northeast India.

The two-day programme concluded on Sunday with an online valedictory function in the presence of Nachiketa Raut, the former director of NIEPVD in Dehradun and title winner of Miss Deaf India in 2016, Anjala Lohan.
