Nithari serial killer Koli gets death sentence, Pandher walks free for want of proof

The Special Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) court on Saturday sentenced Surendra Koli to death in the 12th case related to Nithari murders.

The case relates to the kidnapping, attempted rape and murder of a 20-year-old girl, who worked as domestic help. The Special CBI Judge Amit Vir Singh sentenced the main accused Surendra Koli to death, while acquitting the second accused, Moninder Singh Pandher on Friday due to lack of evidence. The court also imposed a fine of 1.20 lakh on Koli. The murders in Nithari village of Noida were said to be carried out during 2005 and 2006. The skeletons were found from a drain near a house in Nithari in December 2006. The house belonged to Mondinder Singh Pandher where Koli worked as domestic help.

The CBI had filed sixteen cases and the agency chargesheeted Koli in all of them for kidnapping, rape, murder and the destruction of evidence. While Pandher was charged for immoral trafficking.

The CBI court had also summoned Pandher in five cases after some families approached the court. So far, Koli has been pronounced guilty in 11 cases and given the death sentence. The cases are now pending appeal in higher courts.
