NMC holds admission in 3 medical colleges of J’khand

Friday, 17 September 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has decided to put on hold admission in the MBBS course in the three newly established medical colleges in Jharkhand namely Palamu, Dumka and Hazaribagh.

The news must have disappointed medical aspirants who were dreaming of taking admission in these medical colleges. The decision has disappointed NEET aspirants as it has led to a reduction of 300 MBBS seats in Jharkhand.

"We had expected that the issue will be resolved before the NEET 2021 result is announced. Now the result will be declared the next month and we have less seats,” said a medical aspirant.

This has also come as a big jolt for Jharkhand at a time when the state is facing lack of doctors and hospitals amid the Covid 19 pandemic.

MNC has cited reasons like lack of necessary facilities at these medical colleges which were constructed and set-up during the previous government headed by Raghubar Das of the BJP.

MNC pointed out that there was a huge deficit of the bare minimum facilities at these medical colleges like lack of faculty members, absence of library and laboratories and equipment.

A senior resident of Hazaribagh said that infrastructure is not a problem anymore as the construction of the building has been completed and there is enough space for academic activities.

But only a big building and enough space is not sufficient to start the course. For instance there is no gas pipeline in the laboratories and also bare equipment are not available.

Last year also these three colleges were not allowed to take admission in MBBS course due to restrictions imposed by NMC. In November 2020 chief minister Hemant Soren had written a letter to MNC to reconsider the decision. He had assured NMC that necessary infrastructure will be arranged by the end of November 30, 2020. But the MNC refused to reconsider the decision.
