A day after the Delhi Government released Rs 1,051 crore as assistance for municipal corporations to disburse salaries to employees including healthcare workers; the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Monday has released a corpus of Rs 431 crore to pay the staff who has not been paid for long amid the pandemic.
North Delhi Mayor Jai Prakash said that the civic body has released Rs 431 crore to pay salaries of sanitation staff, nurses, doctors, paramedical staff and those who come under group C and D.
He said that efforts are being made to clear maximum liabilities in a phased manner and the dues of teachers and pension of the remaining month would be released soon.
Announcing the grant, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday hoped that the MCD’s leadership will guarantee that this assistance is not used for any other activities and diverted in any way but is used to pay the salaries to employees involved in Covid-19 duty.
The Deputy Chief Minister had said that corporations have not been distributing salaries to their employees despite all the work they have been doing in the midst of the pandemic.
“It is unacceptable if they are unable to pay the salaries of the medical staff, doctors and nurses who are putting their lives on the line to save people in these unprecedented times,” he had said.
