Non-availability of CT scan facility in Nuapada district, especially during the current Covid pandemic, has brought a lot of hardship for the patients, most of whom are forced to run to distant places like Burla, Raipur and Visakhapatnam to avail the facility at high cost.
Jaya Kishan Mazdoor Sangh, Nuapada, convenor Jadumani Panigrahi has alleged that the District Headquarters Hospital has a CT scan machine, but it has been lying unused since last two years as there are no technical staffs to operate it.
"Poor people of the district are forced to approach private hospitals of other States during the Covid-19 pandemic endangering their lives during the journey and paying high fees," he added.
However, Nuapada CDMO Dr Kali Charan Behera said the allegation is not true. "We don't have any CT scan machine though we need one," he said.
Nuapada MLA Rajendra Dholkia has written to the Government to fulfil the need. "There is no CT scan facility in DHH; people are compelled to go to Raipur, Sambalpur or Bhawanipatna for CT scan," stated his letter to Health Minister Naba Kishore Das. “Are the Mo Sarakar authorities not aware of this situation? It is a question mark on the sincerity and integrity of the district health administration as well as the State Government," said Sanjay Tiwari, a resident of Khariar town, who could not get CT scan facility in the district when he was in need of it as he suffered from Covid.
"When the Covid positivity rate as well as the number of deaths due to the virus are yet to show a decline, it is absolutely necessary to have CT scan facility in the DHH, Nuapada," added Tiwari.
