No decision yet to reopen engineering colleges

Saturday, 24 July 2021 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

A few days after a group of BPUT students met Skill Development Minister Premananda Nayak demanding reopening of its affiliated institutions, a letter of the Skill Development and Technical Education Department regarding commencement of physical classes in all engineering and technical institutions from July 26 is doing the rounds on social media.

However, the Government has not made any official announcement in this regard yet. So, is the letter a genuine one? No, the letter, dated July 22, addressing Vice-Chancellors of all Government and private technical universities, Director of IGIT Sarang, Principals of all Government and private engineering Colleges is a fake one.

“The Government is pleased to announce that all technical universities and colleges, engineering and professional colleges under State and private administration are allowed to open from July 26 following COVID-19 protocols and SOP. Hostels are allowed to open from July 23,” the fake letter reads.

Commenting on the matter, the Minister said no such letter has been written by the concerned department. The Government is yet to take call on commencement of physical classes in technical and engineering colleges.
