An appeal has been made to Bhadrak MP Manjulata Mandal by the Coalition for Tobacco-Free Odisha (CTFO) to seek her support as a parliamentarian to support the campaign to curb tobacco in India. The CTFO, a State-level network of women and child rights organisations, activists and experts, has been campaigning across country to make India tobacco free and create a platform for individuals, organisations and campaign groups working on women, child, and youth rights collectively to deliberate and act on tobacco control; thereby broadening tobacco control movement in India. The process calls for formulating effective strategies around tobacco control to support national policy objectives including bidi taxation by bringing women and child rights organisations, civil society groups, domain experts, policymakers and parliamentarians together from across the country, said a core team member of CTFO Odisha chapter Ubachak Mohanty.
