Nurse arrested for selling Remdesivir for `70,000

The Delhi Police has arrested a nurse, along with her three associates, for allegedly black-marketing Remdesivir injections and selling it at high prices in the national Capital.

The accused has been identified as Lalitesh (24), a resident of Badarpur and nurse at Moolchand Hospital, Vipul Verma (29), a resident of Laxmi Nagar, Vishal Kashyap (22), a resident of Moti Nagar, and Shubham (23), a resident of Moti Nagar.

Lalitesh used to procure the injections of Covid patients and gave them to her friends for black-marketing. They used to demand Rs 70,000 for one injection, police said. According to Guriqbal Singh Sidhu, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Northwest district, an information was received on Monday that some persons were involved in black-marketing of Remdesivir injections.  “Police came to know that one person would come near to Haiderpur Bus Stand for delivering a Remdesivir injection. Thereafter, a raid was conducted and Verma was apprehended,” said the Additional DCP. “Verma works as record clerk on contract basis at IHBAS, Dilshad Garden, and one injection was recovered from his possession for which he was demanding Rs 70,000. On his instance, his associates Kashyap and Shubham were also arrested. Six injections were recovered from their possession. Later, Lalitesh, who was the source of recovered injections, was also nabbed,” said the Additional DCP. Lalitesh works as nurse on contract basis in Moolchand Hospital.   She was deployed in COVID ward of the hospital. Lalitesh has disclosed that she was managing to procure left unused Remdesivir injections of COVID patients who were being discharged from COVID ward after recovery, Sidhu said She used to show the unused injections of patients as used by them during the treatment, he said   She was passing the injections  meant for patients to her friend Shubham who was her classmate during the nursing course in her college. Shubham was selling the injections at higher prices through his associates Verma and Kashyap, Sidhu said.  Shubham was depositing money of injections in the account of Lalitesh and a lot of WhatsApp conversations in this regard between them have been found in their recovered mobile phones, police said.
