Only Cong worked for Dalits: Anil

Sunday, 26 September 2021 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar said that only the Congress worked for the progress and welfare of the Dalit community to enable joining the mainstream society, while others only tried to exploit them and marginalise them.

Addressing a Dalit Panchayat of intellectuals at the Ambedkar Bhawan, Kumar said that  that from Mahatma Gandhi to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi,  Rajiv Gandhi and  Rahul Gandhi, Congress has a history of putting Dalits at key positions in the Government and in the party, and also enable them develop not only in the service sector, but also in many other areas of life, including businesses.

Kumar said that for the past seven years, atrocities on Dalits have increased, and the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi and the Arvind Government made the lives of the Dalits miserable, as the sanitation workers had to go on strike to get their wages and the Covid Warriors among the Dalits who died on the line of duty were not given any compensation.

AICC In-charge of Delhi Shakti Sinh Gohil said that under the present ruling dispensations, Dalits are being exploited and suppressed and the BJP Government was making every effort to undermine the constitutional rights of the Dalit community.

He said that youths are the future of the country, but they are now staring at an uncertain future due to rising unemployment, with Delhi topping the list of the unemployed.

On the occasion, Congres Delhi unit vice president Jaikishan said that ever since the Modi Government assumed power at the Centre and the Arvind Government in Delhi, attacks on Dalits, particularly Dalit women and children have been on the rise and attempts were being made to subjugate the community to prevent them from raising their voice against atrocities on them.  Jaikishan said that it was the Congress Government which gave equal rights to the Dalit community and helped them progress through education after independence.
